These two bearings should always be replaced when refurbishing a VAG engine of 1.5, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre capacity. The intermediate shaft is driven off the cambelt and is responsible for the accurate rotation of the oil pump and in many cases the distributor.
These bearings can be extremely difficult to obtain and many engine refurbishes don't replace them as they don't know where to obtain them! Now available from C&R - make sure your engine benefits from new intermediate shaft bearings.
